Repairs and Maintenance
Since Bermuda is such a small island where everything has to be imported, we would like to know what, if any, repair items your ship might need, particularly items that may not be commonly found in most marine repair shops today. The marine repair shops on the island can handle most routine repairs for sailing vessels, however, there is only one sail maker. And, major repairs (e.g. broken masts, spars, yardarms, total sail replacements, hull damage, major engine problems, etc.) may take time, particularly if items have to be imported to complete the repairs. For example, a Class A tall ship that visitied Bermuda earlier this year with a broken yardarm had to arrange, through agents in its home port, to have a new yardarm flown into Bermuda, where it was subsequently fitted.
We will do everything we can to assist where repairs and maintenance are concerned, but we hope you will be patient with our limitations.
If you can think of any unusual repair items that you might need, please advise us now, so we have time to stock up. Do so by emailing us at info@tallships2000.bm at this time.
FOOD PROVISIONS ORDER FORM FOR BERMUDA
Please be advised that Tall Ships 2000 Bermuda representatives will visit each ship in Southampton and Cadiz, prior to race departure, to deliver an order form from the Bermuda wholesale merchants, Butterfield and Vallis. These order forms will then be collected in Cadiz.
It is essential that ALL tall ships order their provisions before departing Cadiz. Bermuda is a small, mid-Atlantic island where everything is imported from overseas. Therefore, when we take your orders in Cadiz, it will give us 3 to 4 weeks to import the items you will require.
All provisions purchased in Bermuda will be on a "cash and deliver" basis. No credit will be accepted and no billings will be sent to agents in the home countries. So, please be prepared to pay cash for your goods. Only Bermuda and U.S. dollars are accepted in Bermuda (U.S. Dollars and Bermuda Dollars are on par).
Those ships that fail to order their provisions in advance cannot be guaranteed anything at all. It will be an extremely busy time in Bermuda and the wholesalers will be stretched to the limit to meet the demands of all the tall ships, as well as hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, private yachts and retail markets. THEREFORE, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ORDER IN ADVANCE.
Below is a "shopping list" for your consideration. Please enter the number of goods you think your ship will need to stock up on in Bermuda. If you do not see items on this list that you think you will require, please add them to the very last section. PLEASE REMEMBER: THIS IS NOT AN ORDER FORM. YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR ORDER FORM IN SOUTHAMPTON, GENOA OR CADIZ, AS APPROPRIATE.
